Checklist

Check

There must be crossover cable connecting the NTB to your PC.

Are you absolutely sure that it is a crossover cable? Look for an "X" printed on the cable or ask your Network manager for advice.

Check

If using a laptop then it must be connected to mains power.

If a laptop is running on battery power, the networking circuits may have been shut down. A reboot may be required after connecting to mains.

Check

If using a laptop then disable any wireless networking.

The laptop will look for the NTB over the wireless network rather than the crossover cable. Remember to disable the wireless every time you reboot the laptop.

Check

Make sure that the computer will not try to access the NTB via a proxy.

In Internet Explorer, click on "Tools | Internet Options.. | Connections | LAN Settings" and make sure that there is no tick in the "Use a proxy server..." checkbox. In Firefox, click on "Tools | Options.. | Connection Settings.. " and make sure that "Direct connection to the Internet" is selected.

Check

Make sure that the computer does not prompt you for a dail-up connection to the Internet.

If using Internet Explorer, you may not be able to prevent the PC from dialing-up an Internet connection then install the Firefox browser on your PC and use it to access the NTB. Use Internet Explorer to access the Internet as before.

Check

Be aware:

The NTB cannot show newsfeeds or external web-pages in this configuration. The NTB cannot access the Internet through the laptop.

Check

Reboot both the NTB and the computer / laptop.

Just pull the power cable out of the NTB and put it back in again after 2 seconds.

Check

The IP address is NOT "No cable?".

"No cable?" means no cable!

OK All the above boxes could be ticked.
